JOHN FREEMAN MBE
John died on 25th July 2023
The funeral will take place at St Thomas’ Church, Winchelsea at 12 noon on Friday 11th August
Retired from the Army with the rank of major, John moved to Winchelsea with Anna in 2000. He became chairman of the Museum and of the New Hall Committee where he was much involved in the planning of the extension to the west end of the building. John was made a freeman of the town and subsequently served as a jurat. He was a cellar tour guide for some years and wrote regular articles on historical topics for the magazine. John and Anna moved to Sevenoaks in 2019 but always regarded Winchelsea as home.
